Nurturing Roots, Building Bonds: OHAAP’s Tree Planting at Mount Purro

On August 30, 2025, members of the OUT-OF-HOME ADVERTISING ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES (OHAAP) stepped away from the fast pace of city life and into the refreshing embrace of nature. At Mount. Purro Nature Reserve in Antipolo, they gathered not just to plant trees but to nurture something deeper — a renewed sense of connection, shared responsibility, and pride in their Association.

A Morning of Purpose

The day began with warm greetings as participants arrived, eager to contribute to the cause. OHAAP Vice President and CSR Director Jun Neri set the tone in his welcome message: “This simple initiative is our way of giving back — supporting sustainability and creating a greener environment for the next generations.”

Chairman Daryl Abueva echoed the sentiment, calling the tree planting a “noble activity to support Mother Nature.” His words reminded everyone that the activity was not just about planting seedlings, but also about strengthening OHAAP’s bonds as a community.

The Spirit of Mount Purro

Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Madre, Mt. Purro Nature Reserve provided the perfect backdrop. Founded by Toto Malvar after decades of reforestation work, the eco-park is a sanctuary built on the principle of reconnecting with God, Nature, and People. Here, OHAAP members were welcomed warmly and reminded of the lasting impact of stewardship of our natural resources.

Hands in the Soil

After a short but hike with walking sticks in hand, members arrived at the hillside planting site prepared for OHAAP. Bags of Narra seedlings were waiting, each spot carefully marked. Members excitedly peeled open the seedling bags and pressed them into the ground. Some worked quietly and focused, while others joked and laughed, turning the task into a bonding moment.

When all the seedlings were in place, everyone gathered below the hill. A drone camera captured the community as they waved and proudly shouted: “OHAAP CARES!”

Feet in Water

In the afternoon, the group set off for a river walk. Just as they began, rain poured down, soaking shoes, clothes, and even bags. Instead of dampening spirits, the downpour added to the fun. Members laughed as they waded through rushing water, enjoying the spontaneity of being with nature and each other.

When the skies cleared, some hopped onto a bamboo balsa for a short joy ride across the muddy stream. Before heading back, the group posed with the OHAAP banner — a fitting way to cap a day of service and togetherness.

More Than Just Trees

Throughout the activity, camaraderie filled the air. Members helped each other dig, carry, and plant, pausing to take photos framed by Mount Purro’s lush greenery. By the end, rows of seedlings dotted the hillside, a living reminder of what OHAAP had accomplished together.

The final group photo reflected not only pride in the trees planted but also in the unity strengthened that day. Like the seedlings, OHAAP itself is full of potential — requiring care, and a commitment to grow into something lasting.

Looking Ahead

The OHAAP Tree Planting Activity at Mount Purro was more than a one-day CSR project. For the 41 members who joined, it was a day of laughter, teamwork, and the satisfaction of doing something meaningful. For those who couldn’t make it, it serves as an invitation — every activity is a chance to contribute to important causes while deepening friendships within the OHAAP community.

As the 100 seedlings take root, so too does the spirit of unity among OHAAP members. In this sanctuary of nature and purpose, the Association found the perfect space to give back, reconnect, and reflect on the deeper meaning of being part of OHAAP.
